Frequently Asked Questions

1. What’s the difference between UV printing and offset printing?

UV printing uses UV-curable inks, which offer better durability and a naturally glossy finish. As a result, areas printed with UV ink appear brighter and more visually striking.

UV printing is also a digital printing process, making it ideal for small production runs.

For quantities under 5,000 pieces, UV printing is usually more cost-effective.

Offset printing is the most widely used industrial-scale label printing method. The colors appear more natural and consistent, though less glossy than UV ink, and color variation is typically minimal.

Offset printing is better suited for large production runs, and for quantities over 5,000 pieces, it generally offers a more competitive price.

2. How do I choose the right "Finish"?

1. For UV Printing:

If you are using UV printing, “No Finish” is the most common choice. UV inks naturally have a glossy appearance, so the printed areas will already appear bright and shiny.

If you want the entire label to have a glossy finish rather than only the printed areas, you can choose “Gloss Laminate.”

If you prefer the entire label to have a matte look, choose “Matte Laminate.” This will reduce the natural gloss of UV ink and create a uniform matte appearance across the label.

2. For Offset Printing:

Offset inks do not have natural gloss, so the final surface appearance depends entirely on the finish you choose.

   - For a matte effect, choose “No Finish” or “Matte Laminate.”

   - For a high-gloss effect, choose “Gloss Laminate.”

   - For a finish between matte and gloss, choose “Gloss Coat.”, which provides a subtle sheen without being overly shiny.

3. How do I choose the right "Special Finish"?

1. For UV Printing:

  - Raised Spot UV

A layer of UV coating is applied to selected areas of the label, creating a glossy, raised effect that draws attention to important design elements.

2. For Offset Printing:

  - Flat Foil Stamping

Colored foil is applied to key elements like logos or slogans to create a metallic finish.

  - Spot Gloss UV

A glossy UV coating is applied to selected areas to create shine and contrast. Unlike raised Spot UV used in UV printing, this finish is flat and not raised.

  - Spot Texture UV

A textured, matte UV coating is applied to selected areas, creating a fine grain or frosted texture, similar to a frosted glass effect.

  - Reverse UV

A fine matte UV coating is applied across most of the label surface, creating a high-transparency look with subtle fine texture, while selected areas remain smooth for contrast.

4. What material are the freezer roll labels made of?

Our freezer roll labels are made with specialized BOPP material and a cold-resistant adhesive.

They are designed to maintain strong adhesion even in extremely low-temperature environments.

5. What’s the difference between "varnish" and "lamination"?

Varnish is a thin coating applied only to the printed areas. It enhances the visual texture (glossy or matte) and gives the label a more premium look, but offers light protection.

Lamination is a full-coverage film applied over the entire label surface. It provides much stronger durability—better resistance to water, scratches, oils, and handling.

In short:

  - Varnish: Better texture & visual effect

  - Lamination: Better protection & durability

6. What’s the difference between "manual application" and "machine application"?

Manual application rolls come in random core sizes and unwind directions, while machine application allows you to specify both the core size and the label unwind direction.

7. Are your freezer roll labels waterproof and oil-resistant?

Yes, our freezer roll labels are both waterproof and oil-resistant.

However, for heavy-oil environments—such as kitchen products or industrial equipment—please contact our support team for a custom oil-resistant adhesive.

8. Are your freezer roll labels removable or permanent?

Our  freezer roll labels here use a permanent adhesive.

If you need removable labels, please visit our "Removable Roll Labels" product page to place an order.

9. Do I need to include bleed or a die line in my design file?

No, you don’t need to include bleed or a die line. The size you enter when ordering will be the exact final label size.

Please make sure the label size in your design file matches the size you submit with your order to avoid any errors.

10. When can I receive my labels?

Production and shipping times depend on your production method, finish complexity, order size, and chosen shipping option.

1. Production Time

    - Standard Production: Typically 4-6 business days.

    - Rush Production: Typically 2-3 business days.

For orders over 30,000 pieces or with speical finishes, production may require an additional 2–3 business days.

2. Shipping Time

We offer multiple delivery options, from the fastest DHL Express (2–4 days) to the most economical Sea & Land Delivery (around 3 weeks).

You can choose the best fit based on your budget and timeline.

If you have a tight deadline, please contact us to make sure your deadline can be met.

11. Can I design my label on your website?

Sorry, our website doesn’t currently support design creation. You’ll need to upload your finished design file to us.

12. Can I send you my text and images for you to design the label for me?

Sorry, we provide printing services only and do not offer design services.

We can help prepare your file for printing, but we cannot adjust, modify, or create the design for you.

13. How can I create my design?

You can use a professional desktop application like Adobe Illustrator® or hire a designer to create your artwork.

Already have a file but not sure about it? Email our packaging experts at support@unikportrait.com for a review.

14. How can I determine the correct label size?

The easiest way is to ask your designer — they can create a mockup to help you confirm the exact label size.

If you’re designing the label yourself, print your design in several different sizes on paper, cut them out, and place them on your product to see which size fits best. Once you’ve found the right one, you can place your order using that confirmed size.
