Frequently Asked Questions

1. What surfaces can UV transfer labels be applied to?

Our UV transfer labels work best on smooth, hard surfaces—and they also apply well to paperboard packaging like boxes and cartons.

For frosted glass and other rough-textured surfaces, we don’t recommend UV transfer labels.

For soft or flexible materials, we also don’t recommend UV transfer labels—please try our Magic Transfer Stickers instead, which are designed specifically for soft surfaces.

2. Are UV transfer labels waterproof and oil-resistant?

Our UV transfer labels have some water resistance, but they’re not oil-resistant.

If your product will be used in very oily or extremely humid environments, we don’t recommend UV transfer labels.

Instead, consider our Ultra-Clear Roll Labels—they deliver a near “transfer” look, with much stronger water resistance and scratch durability.

3. Are UV transfer labels permanent? How durable are they?

UV transfer labels aren’t permanent, but for indoor display / packaging decoration, they typically stay on and won’t peel off.

4. How scratch-resistant are UV transfer labels?

It depends on your artwork—tiny text and thin lines scratch more easily because there’s less contact area. Bigger, solid areas hold up better.

For higher scratch resistance, try UV DTF Transfer Stickers or Ultra Clear Roll Labels.

5. What is the difference between UV transfer labels and UV DTF transfer stickers?

Both UV transfer labels and UV DTF transfer stickers use UV-curable inks, but they differ significantly in printing methods and ideal applications.

UV transfer labels are produced using screen printing, which allows for extremely fine details—down to 1 mm text or elements. They support Pantone color matching, as well as spot gold and silver, offering high color accuracy. However, they are limited to solid colors only (no gradients) and have moderate scratch resistance.

UV DTF transfer stickers are digitally printed, making them ideal for images and gradient designs. While color accuracy is less precise compared to screen printing, they offer higher scratch resistance. For best results, a minimum text size of 2 mm or larger is recommended.

6. What is the minimum printable font size?

The minimum font that can be printed on our UV transfer labels is 1 mm in height.

7. Does the size include bleeding & margins?

No, our transfer label does not require bleeding and margins while calculating the size.

8. What file formats do I need to provide?

Ideal file formats: AI, PDF, EPS, SVG

Other acceptable file formats: JPG, JPEG, PNG, but image resolution must be at least 150 dpi.

If you don't have vector files or HD images, you can click here to buy our Redraw Service.

9. May I get a proof prior to printing?

Yes — if you select “Digital Proof Required” before adding to cart, we’ll email you a digital proof within 24 hours (excluding holidays) after you place the order. Production starts only after you approve the proof.

  • If you do not receive it, please check your spam folder, or email us to support@unikportrait.com

10. How about the color difference?

For orders with a quantity of less than 5,000 labels, slight color difference is inevitable.

Our transfer labels are not simply printed by inkjet printers with CMYK ink, but made by screen printing. So, the ink is artificially modulated.

If it is important that your colors are exact, please order 5,000 labels at least and provide Pantone color number so that we can customize spot ink from ink company directly.

11. When can I receive my labels?

UV transfer labels use a complex production process—they’re not simply digitally printed—so production typically takes 5–7 business days.

For shipping, we offer multiple options, from the fastest DHL (2–4 days) to the most economical Standard Shipping (7–10 days).

You can choose the best fit based on your budget and timeline.

If you have a tight deadline, please contact us to make sure your deadline can be met.

12. Can I send you my text and images for you to design the label for me?

Sorry, we provide printing services only and do not offer design services.

We can help prepare your file for printing, but we cannot adjust, modify, or create the design for you.

13. How can I determine the correct label size?

The easiest way is to ask your designer — they can create a mockup to help you confirm the exact label size.

If you’re designing the label yourself, print your design in several different sizes on paper, cut them out, and place them on your product to see which size fits best. Once you’ve found the right one, you can place your order using that confirmed size.

14. Can I have a sample with our own design?

Sorry—UV transfer labels are screen printed, so each design requires its own film and printing plate. That’s why we have a 100-piece MOQ (to cover the setup cost).

In simple terms, making 1 custom sample costs almost the same as producing 100 labels.

If you just want to check the look and performance, we recommend our free sample pack (random samples—you only cover shipping).
